De Barderij (Closed Permanently)

(15 Ratings)
A bit older and quieter on the Zeedijk
A cozy and warmly lit hetero-friendly gay bar catering to (mostly) men who like a bit of Schlager (old-time pop music) with their beer. The bar dominates the space, with stools all around, while there's an intimate aclove area overlooking the canal in back. Opened 2001, with new owners since 2007. The name is a play on 'Boerderij', which means 'farm'. Sadly the bar closed in 2016, leaving Zeedijk seriously lacking as a street for a gay bar crawl.

This place is a winner!

De Barderij has everything to love: great beer on tap, convivial atmosphere, cheesy Dutch pop music from the 40's, "New York, New York" with new Dutch lyrics sung nightly by the exuberant bartenders. Don't expect a cruisy atmosphere, but I did get a lot of interest and offers! :-) Go on Thursdays for a typical 3-course Dutch meal.
