On the 14th of May, Dali Lama's Pajamas, a wearable art-project based in Amsterdam, is launching its “Be Well Be Love Be Love Be Well” collection.
The idea behind the Dali Lama's Pajamas project is that clothes aren’t simply something to put on: clothes can do something with you. With their wide shape and soft fabric, inspired by oriental monks costumes, the Dali Lama's Pajamas embrace the body as a cocoon, giving a sense of protection. The Kimono - Poncho inspired cut is easy to wear, the round shape creates volume around the body and with its large, open sleeves it invites the wearer to ritualistically come in contact with its own skin.
The profound sense of freedom and calmness which derives from the particular way they fit the body is also inspired by the religious quietness of Buddhism. For this reason, the Dali Lama's Pajamas represent not merely the result of a craftsman talent, but they are in a way a prayer, a symbol of a spiritual initiation. for this reason, Each Piece is anointed with the Dali Lama's Pajamas blessing:
“May you walk in comfort,
knowing you are protected
and May you rest in Peace
Knowing we are all One.”
The Dali Lama's Pajamas are handmade, one of a kind pieces, and are designed to be worn by both men and women. The textile used is recycled and up-cycled, sourced from end of the roll textile, old scarves, neck ties, sheets and curtains.
The collaboration with Gallery Gabriel Rolt, the location of the collection launch, stands from the hybridity of the Dali Lama's Pajamas, which are a spiritual, fashion and artistic expression.
The event Wear the prayer will show not only the new Dali Lama's Pajamas'collection, but it will also be the platform for creative people to come together, enjoying artistic expressions from fashion designs to figurative art, showcased in the gallery space.
