Otherworldly cinema opened in 1921, when movie houses were built as palaces. The mishmash of decorative styles — Amsterdam School, jugendstil, art nouveau and art deco — works a glorious treat, with interiors by Pieter den Besten and Jaap Gidding. A jewel is definitely the word for this beautiful cinema. The last time I was there, I saw Mary Poppins Returns, but I've been there several times and have seen a variety of films here. Fantastic!
