Marvellous Mandarin

Recommended Mandarin Chinese hot spot in the Zeedijk, opened in the early 1980s and still serving tasty and fresh dishes, from the famous prawn dumpling soup to beef with black pepper sauce and crispy roasted duck. Located in Amsterdam's Chinatown, which melds with two of the city's gay zones, the restaurant is subtly designery and tasteful, with a rather jagged up-and-down layout. Hugely busy and buzzy, with enough waiting time in which to leave your name, then skip to one of the Zeedijk bars for a drink before returning for a table. Or better yet reserve in advance.
