Bar Buka

Amsterdam's one proper lesbian bar, though one which, in keeping with modern sensibilities, identifies itself as queer and inclusive. Drinking is de rigueur, with finger food available as a distraction. Tables get pushed aside and dancing becomes a thing as the drink kicks in, later in the evening. The entertainment menu includes queer comedy, karaoke and a Dutch-style pub quiz, but the schedule shifts regularly. There's even a 35+ night every two months. The walls play host to a different female artist every two months. Outdoor terrace for smoking. Located in a rather residential part of De Pijp, in the city's southern district, but soundproofed. Closed Monday and Tuesday (and Wednesday during the colder months). Opened March 2019 by Marianne van der Wildt, born in Indonesia, where 'buka' means 'open' (here signifying that the bar is open to all).
